Privacy Policy

The short version

• Calculators, generators and spreadsheets on this site run inside your browser. The numbers you type are not sent to us or to anyone else.
• We have no user accounts and no sign-up.
• We use privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics that count page views without identifying you.
• Optional cookies (for example, from advertising) are off until you choose to allow them.

Who we are

Tax Colony (“we”, “us”) publishes taxcolony.com, an independent educational website. Contact: hello@taxcolony.com.

What we collect

Nothing you type into tools. Inputs to calculators and generators stay in your browser’s memory. Where a tool offers “remember my inputs”, it uses your browser’s local storage on your device only, and you can clear it at any time.

Preferences. Your chosen country, language, theme and cookie choice are stored in your browser’s local storage so the site remembers them. They are not sent to us.

Server logs. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes IP addresses and request headers to serve pages and protect against abuse. This is a technical necessity. We do not use these logs to profile visitors.

Analytics. We use aggregate, cookie-free page-view analytics. It reports which pages are popular and which countries visitors come from, without storing identifiers that single you out.

Exchange rates. The currency widget asks Frankfurter (api.frankfurter.dev), a free public exchange-rate service, for the latest rates, straight from your browser. The request contains no amounts or other inputs, but like any web request it shows that service your IP address.

Email. If you email us, we keep the message to reply and to keep a record of corrections.

Advertising and affiliates

If we enable advertising, the ad provider may set cookies or use similar technology only after you allow optional cookies in the consent banner. Affiliate links are labelled. See the advertising disclosure.

Donations

Donations are processed by third-party payment providers. They receive what you give them (for example, a card number) under their own privacy policies. We receive at most a confirmation and the amount.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to processing of personal data. Because we hold almost none, most requests will simply be confirmed as “we have nothing on you”. Email hello@taxcolony.com.

India (Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023). We process minimal personal data (server logs and emails you send) for the purposes above. You may request access, correction or erasure, and may nominate another person to exercise these rights, by writing to our grievance contact at hello@taxcolony.com. EU/UK (GDPR / UK GDPR). Legal bases: legitimate interest (serving pages, security, aggregate analytics) and consent (optional cookies). You may complain to your supervisory authority. (Review: confirm whether a representative is required.)

California (CCPA/CPRA). We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising unless you opt in to optional cookies. (Review: confirm “Do Not Sell or Share” link requirement if ads are enabled.)

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
